Nine Family Members Slaughtered in Plateau State Attack

A family of nine was killed during an overnight attack in Riyom, Plateau State, prompting the Berom Youth Moulders-Association to call for immediate federal intervention.

Armed attackers recently raided Wereng-Camp and Kum villages in the Riyom Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of nine people from the same family. Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), confirmed that the violence began late Saturday night on July 11, 2026, and extended into the early hours of Sunday.

The BYM attributed the incident to militants based in the Fass enclave near Jol Community. Among the casualties were Celina James, 38, along with several younger relatives including three-month-old Jennifer Yohanna. Another man, 40-year-old Pam Yohanna, remains in critical condition following the assault.

Led by Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, the BYM voiced alarm over the persistent targeting of Christian farming areas. The organization highlighted how these invasions are destroying families and displacing residents throughout North-Central Nigeria. They have formally requested that the Nigerian Federal Government act immediately to secure these regions, destroy criminal hideouts, and provide necessary aid to those who have lost their homes. The group continues to push for an independent investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable and establish lasting safety for the civilian population.
