ISWAP loses key bomb experts in accidental Borno explosion

Five ISWAP members, including bomb-making experts, died in an accidental explosion while assembling devices in Borno State, potentially disrupting the group’s local operational capabilities.

Five ISWAP members, including four individuals skilled in explosive construction and a medical professional, were killed in Borno State following a premature detonation of a device they were assembling. Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident took place in Maina Daya Village, located in the Marte Local Government Area.

Among the casualties were Usman Dan Fulani, a medical officer for the group, two foreign experts specializing in improvised explosive devices, and two additional specialists. Intelligence reports indicate the group was preparing these materials to target military supply corridors within the Operation HADIN KAI Sector 1 region.

Security officials suggest this incident may significantly hinder ISWAP’s capacity to launch roadside attacks near the Marte–Monguno axis. Consequently, military leaders have ordered increased patrols and aggressive search missions throughout the Monguno, Marte, and Gamboru Ngala districts to prevent the insurgents from regaining momentum.
