Nigerian Soldiers Free 53 Captives and Retrieve Vehicles from ISWAP in Borno

Operation Hadin Kai troops liberated 53 civilians and reclaimed eight vehicles after confronting ISWAP insurgents blocking a highway in Borno State.

Soldiers serving under Operation Hadin Kai successfully removed an illegal roadblock set up by ISWAP militants on the Buratai–Kamuya road within the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. This mission resulted in the rescue of 53 civilians and the recovery of eight vehicles that the insurgents had previously confiscated.

Official reports from the Joint Task Force North East, released by Captain Mohammed Goni on June 25, 2026, confirm the operation took place on June 24. Members of the 135 Special Forces Battalion observed the obstruction via surveillance equipment at Dutse Kura and promptly mobilized a response team.

The militants retreated toward the Mangari–Dora region after a brief exchange of fire with the approaching troops. Once the area was secure, soldiers transported the 53 rescued individuals and the recovered vehicles to Buratai for medical assessments and formal processing. The Theatre Command praised the unit for their effective performance and encouraged local residents to keep reporting suspicious activity to help maintain security across the region.
