Under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, the Nigerian Navy remains active in blocking attempts to restart illicit refining activities in Rivers state. Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, confirmed in an Abuja report that the military is successfully preventing the reconstruction of banned infrastructure.
Following an initial raid on July 10 by the crew of the NNS PATHFINDER in the Egbema area of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, criminals tried to bring the sites back online. The navy responded with ongoing surveillance and subsequent enforcement actions. During the most recent mission, officers located and disabled two sites that had been reopened. They seized roughly 76,000 litres of material believed to be stolen crude.
Furthermore, the team secured 50,000 litres of suspected illegally processed Automotive Gas Oil stored in pits and reservoirs. This brings the total volume of confiscated petroleum products to 126,000 litres. The navy emphasized that this action serves to prevent oil thieves from establishing a permanent presence. All materials were managed following standard procedures to fight oil theft, while the force continues to pressure criminal networks throughout the region.
