Nigerian Navy Seizes 39,500 Litres of Illicit Crude in Rivers State

The Nigerian Navy successfully disrupted an oil theft ring in Rivers State, seizing 39,500 litres of suspected stolen crude during a targeted operation in Bonny.

As part of Operation Delta Sentinel, the Nigerian Navy has dismantled a clandestine crude oil storage network in the Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State. The operation resulted in the recovery of approximately 39,500 litres of suspected stolen crude oil.

Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Information, reported that personnel from the Forward Operating Base in Bonny acted on specific intelligence regarding suspicious activity near the Okpokiri Community. During the sweep, the team identified four concealed dugout pits along the creek. Three of these pits were found holding the stolen product, while the fourth was empty.

Folorunsho explained that these hidden sites are frequently used by criminal syndicates to amass stolen resources before moving them through illicit distribution networks. By neutralizing these storage facilities, the Navy aims to cripple the logistics chains that support oil theft in the Niger Delta. The confiscated products were processed according to military protocol, and patrol efforts have been increased to ensure the area remains clear of illegal activities. The Navy remains dedicated to protecting national assets and strengthening the nation’s economic stability through sustained, intelligence-led missions.
