President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated the liberation of 308 Nigerians who were previously held captive after separate kidnapping incidents in Niger and Kwara states. This development was shared in a Wednesday press release from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Of those saved, 163 were taken from the Woro Community in Kaiama, Kwara State, while 145 were freed from Niger State. This operation took place within the Kainji Lake National Park forest located in the New Bussa area of Niger State. The successful mission was carried out by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, alongside members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force. This ranks as the biggest single-day rescue mission executed by the joint security forces.
President Tinubu lauded the security personnel for their courage and efficient cooperation. He noted that the operation highlights the rising effectiveness of Nigerian security services. Currently, the survivors are receiving medical treatment at Wawa Cantonment. Following their recovery, they will be returned to their state governments for family reunification.
Looking ahead, the President has ordered security forces to bolster early warning systems and improve local intelligence to prevent further kidnappings. He reiterated his government’s commitment to removing security threats and ensuring safety throughout the country.
