A total of 4,739 new soldiers from the 90 Regular Recruits Intake completed their training at the Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo, Osun State, on Saturday. This initiative is part of a broader push to enhance national security infrastructure.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, praised the depot for its consistent success, noting that it has now trained 8,111 personnel to official military standards. He highlighted that these recruits are prepared for current operational demands, thanks to a revised curriculum focusing on counterterrorism and counterinsurgency strategies. These graduates are part of a 28,000-person expansion authorized by President Bola Tinubu, with three major training centers now tasked with producing 14,000 recruits annually.
During the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Shaibu issued a stern warning regarding social media usage. He prohibited the unauthorized sharing of sensitive military information or visuals, noting that such breaches would result in disciplinary measures or dismissal. He further reminded the new soldiers to uphold human rights and remain disciplined while on duty.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, congratulated the new soldiers and emphasized their duty to the Constitution. He appealed for increased military assistance to combat rising political violence in Osun State, specifically requesting checkpoints at strategic locations to intercept illegal arms linked to unauthorized mining operations.
