The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) credited its air dominance and intelligence capabilities for the recent rescue of students and teachers kidnapped from Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, located in the Askira/Uba area of Borno State. Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, announced this in an Abuja statement on Tuesday.
The abduction occurred on Monday during the National Examination Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination. Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, the Chief of the Air Staff, lauded the rapid deployment of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) resources and air support, which hindered the kidnappers and allowed ground forces to intervene. Aneke emphasized that this mission proved the success of joint, intelligence-based operations in ensuring civilian safety.
Vice Principal Paul Namaske noted that the appearance of military aircraft caused the attackers to scatter, allowing the captives to flee as soldiers moved in. During the mission, one soldier and a Civilian Joint Task Force member were killed. The NAF continues its security campaigns across the North-East to eliminate militant threats.
