Sani Usman, the retired Director of Army Public Relations, recently urged the Nigerian authorities to integrate advanced technology into their efforts to suppress domestic terrorism and banditry. During an appearance on the Channels Television program Sunday Politics, Usman emphasized that intelligence-led operations are crucial for national security.
Usman argued that many terrorist leaders and bandit kingpins display clear patterns of criminal behavior or violent extremism early on, which the current oversight systems have consistently failed to intercept. He suggested that implementing better surveillance and tracking technology would create a deterrent effect, as criminals would realize that the probability of avoiding detection is extremely low. Ultimately, he believes that these tools would ensure that perpetrators are held accountable, as the reach of modern monitoring makes it nearly impossible for them to evade capture for long.
