Nineteen children, some as young as eight, have been recovered from an illegal mining location near the MI Wushishi Housing Estate by the Niger State Child Rights Protection Agency (NSCRA). Director-General Hajiya Ummul Mohammed reported that the minors were discovered performing risky labor.
To prevent future occurrences, the agency mandated that each parent sign a ₦5 million bond. Mohammed emphasized that this measure serves as a warning against permitting minors to engage in such precarious work. She stated that financial hardship does not justify placing children in environments that threaten their well-being.
The NSCRA remains committed to removing children from hazardous situations. Mohammed urged community leaders, guardians, and government partners to work together to shield youth from exploitation and dangerous labor practices.
