The Kano State Multi-Joint Task Force on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crimes apprehended 28 individuals and closed five illicit drug sites during recent raids in the Rimin Gado and Doka areas. These actions took place on Friday within the Rimin Gado and Tofa Local Government Areas.
Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, the committee secretary, confirmed that various illegal substances were seized during the mission. Task force chairman Muhuyi Magaji noted that the initiative highlights the uniform application of the law throughout the state. He emphasized that the ‘Kano First’ policy remains central to their efforts to align with the objectives of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in creating a secure and drug-free environment.
Choosing his own hometown as the starting point was a calculated decision, Magaji explained. The anti-drug campaign will eventually cover all 44 local government areas in Kano. The ongoing efforts include both active enforcement and detailed investigations to dismantle criminal networks. Those found culpable will face legal consequences.
Moving forward, the task force plans to collaborate with local leaders, health professionals, and schools to discourage substance abuse and assist with rehabilitation. Magaji clarified that the operation does not target lawful commerce; instead, it aims to safeguard communities from the negative impacts of drug trafficking. Authorities are encouraging the public to provide information regarding any suspicious activity related to illegal drugs.
