The Kogi State Police Command has initiated a search and rescue mission after four people were kidnapped from an unauthorized examination site at an unused public school in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area. Those abducted include the school principal, Elder Daniel Iyanaa, a NECO official named Solomon Audu, and two students, both named Dorcas.
Police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat reported that the attack happened while ten students were taking a NECO exam at the closed facility. State Police Commissioner Naziru Bello Kankarofi responded by dispatching tactical squads to the area. He visited the site alongside military and security leadership to oversee the operation.
Initial reports indicate that the government had previously shuttered the school due to security vulnerabilities. Despite this, the site was being used as a so-called miracle center for examinations. Authorities are currently looking into those responsible for facilitating the illegal use of the building. Furthermore, the police are investigating reports that this specific classroom was frequently used for academic dishonesty.
Officials have issued a stern warning that anyone involved in operating the facility or enabling exam malpractice will face legal consequences. A combined security force, including the Nigerian Army and local community groups, is currently conducting sweeps of the surrounding bushland. The command has requested public cooperation while urging citizens to ignore rumors and report any relevant information to the authorities.
