A Kano State High Court has ordered that Shuaibu Abdulkadir be executed by hanging following his conviction for the murder of 22-year-old Rumaisa Shuaibu, who was expecting a child. Justice Farida Dan Baffa announced the ruling on Friday, concluding that the prosecution successfully established guilt beyond any reasonable doubt.
The accused, who resided in the Farawa area of Kumbotso Local Government, faced a single charge of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Kano State Penal Code. The legal proceedings commenced on August 23, 2025. Prosecutor Basiru Kabiru Aliyu presented three witnesses during the trial, including the victim’s spouse, Ibrahim Muhammad, the defendant’s partner, Asiya Abdulmalik, and the lead investigator, ASP Chindo Chiwa.
To support their case, the prosecution introduced various pieces of evidence, including video footage, a digital confession, photographs, the murder weapon, and the defendant’s mobile device. The court found that Abdulkadir killed the victim after she became pregnant by him.
Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude (SAN), commended the ruling as a major step toward judicial accountability. He praised the legal team’s professionalism and reiterated the government’s resolve to uphold the rule of law and secure justice for victims of violent crimes.
