NDLEA Arrests 22 Suspects In Kano Drug Raids
The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 22 individuals found in possession of various illicit drugs during a series of coordinated raids across the state.
In a statement released on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, confirmed the arrests.
He noted that the operations were part of heightened efforts led by the State Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, aimed at tackling drug-related offenses and enhancing public safety in Kano.
“On April 10, the agency dislodged traffickers from several drug hotspots located at the Dan’agundi Construction Site, Gwangwazo Area, Farm Centre along Zaria Road, Tashar Rami, and Filin Idi in Kano,” Muhammad-Maigatari stated.
“The operation underscores the command’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug trafficking and abuse, which continue to pose serious threats to public safety and the well-being of communities.”
Muhammad-Maigatari further revealed that significant quantities of assorted illicit substances—such as cannabis sativa, “suck and die,” rubber solution, and various locally made weapons—were seized during the raids.
He added that investigations are currently underway to identify the drug dealers among the suspects. “Those found culpable will be charged to court accordingly,” he said, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to curbing drug-related crimes in the state.
“In line with the agency’s public health strategy, individuals found to be drug users will be referred to the command’s Drug Demand Reduction Programme for counselling and rehabilitation.
“This dual approach aims not only to curb drug trafficking but also to support individuals struggling with substance abuse.”
He assured the public that the agency remains resolute in its mission, undeterred by challenges, and is adopting proactive strategies in both operations and logistics to stay ahead of evolving drug-related threats.
“The NDLEA remains steadfast in its mission to eradicate drug-related offences and ensure a safer environment for all,” he said.
He called on members of the public to actively support the agency’s efforts by promptly reporting any suspicious drug-related activities within their communities.
