Ahmad Musa Kida, who heads the Nigeria Basketball Federation, has requested public support for the senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, as they commence their FIBA Africa World Cup qualification phase. The squad faces a tough road in Group E, where they are scheduled to compete against South Sudan, Cameroon, Tunisia, Guinea, and Cabo Verde.
Nigeria’s opening matches begin on August 27 against Cameroon, followed by games versus South Sudan on August 28 and Cabo Verde on August 30. Kida emphasized that the collective encouragement of the nation and corporate sponsors is vital to boosting the morale of the technical staff and players.
Statistically, the team holds a strong historical advantage over South Sudan and Cameroon. However, Cabo Verde poses a significant threat, as the Nigerian side has only managed a single victory in six previous games against them. Despite these challenges, Kida remains optimistic that a unified effort will help the squad secure a spot in the upcoming world tournament.
