Monga Explains Decision to Choose Manchester City Over Arsenal

Jeremy Monga reveals why he chose to join Manchester City instead of Arsenal, highlighting the club’s successful pathway as the decisive factor in his transfer.

Jeremy Monga stated that signing with Manchester City was an easy choice compared to joining Arsenal. The 17-year-old winger transitioned from Leicester, a League One side, to the Etihad Stadium this summer in a transaction valued at £10 million, with additional performance-based bonuses of £2.5 million.

As the third-youngest individual to play in the Premier League, Monga secured a contract running through 2031, effectively rejecting interest from the reigning champions, Arsenal. Speaking with BBC Sport, he admitted that his move to North London was nearly finalized before he ultimately shifted his focus.

Monga emphasized that the clear career progression and the elite status of Manchester City were the primary factors in his decision. He noted that aiming for championships at a top-tier club is a fundamental ambition for young players. The teenager made his debut for his new team on Wednesday, appearing off the bench during a 3-1 victory against a K-League XI in South Korea.
