Troy Deeney predicts England’s World Cup exit at the hands of Argentina

Troy Deeney predicts that while England will defeat Norway to reach the semi-finals, they will ultimately be eliminated by Argentina in the 2026 World Cup.

Former Watford skipper Troy Deeney has questioned England’s prospects of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. While he expects the Three Lions to move past Norway in their upcoming quarter-final, he believes Argentina will ultimately eliminate them in the semi-finals.

England secured a narrow 3-2 win against Mexico despite going down to ten men at the Azteca under Thomas Tuchel. Meanwhile, Norway advanced after a surprising win over Brazil. Deeney remains unimpressed by England’s performances, noting that the team has struggled to control games or break down defensive setups. He emphasized that his criticism is rooted in a lack of consistency rather than personal bias, pointing out that the team has yet to demonstrate the aggressive style of play promised by the manager.

Argentina, the defending champions, staged a dramatic comeback against Egypt to keep their title defense alive and are now preparing to face Switzerland. As England faces pressure to improve, Deeney maintains that while a victory over Norway is likely, the side currently lacks the cohesion required to overcome the Argentine squad in the next stage.
