Minister Umahi addresses the passing of his late aide Mary Habila

Minister of Works David Umahi has spoken out regarding the death of his aide, Mary Habila, stating that she was like family and dismissing claims of foul play.

Minister of Works David Umahi addressed the media in Abuja this Thursday to clarify the circumstances regarding the death of Mary Habila. Habila, who passed away at his home in Uburu, Ebonyi State, was treated like a daughter, according to the minister. Dismissing rumors of wrongdoing, Umahi stated that linking him to the death was an extreme political tactic.

The minister explained that Habila had worked alongside his family for three years. He noted that he had personally covered her medical expenses for longstanding health issues. Before her death, she reportedly complained of nosebleeds while speaking with her partner, and Umahi maintains there is no evidence of foul play.

Clarifying her professional background, the minister stated she was a nurse employed by the Federal University of Health Sciences, rather than a physiotherapist as some reports claimed. Umahi has formally requested an autopsy and instructed that her remains not be released until the cause of death is medically confirmed. He reiterated that his family and her family share a very close bond.
