Military Thwarts ISWAP Kidnapping Attempt at Borno School

Operation HADIN KAI troops repelled an ISWAP kidnapping attempt at a Monguno school, rescuing 46 students although some casualties occurred due to stray gunfire.

Security forces operating under Operation HADIN KAI, alongside the Nigeria Police Mobile Force, successfully intercepted a mass kidnapping attempt by suspected ISWAP militants at the Federal Government Girls College in Monguno. The facility is currently serving as temporary housing for Federal Polytechnic students.

The incident began around 1:30 a.m. on July 19. When militants targeted the site, guards on duty and the Sector 3 Quick Reaction Force responded with significant firepower, causing the attackers to retreat. Captain Mohammed Goni, acting military information officer, confirmed that the joint effort prevented the abduction of 46 students.

While the students were safely relocated to Kinnasara Barracks for medical evaluation and are reported to be in stable condition, the confrontation resulted in property damage. Tragically, some students lost their lives after being hit by stray bullets fired by the insurgents as they fled the scene.
