Soldiers from Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North-West, known as Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully liberated three kidnapped individuals and disrupted an imminent terrorist raid during missions in Zamfara and Sokoto states. These actions, aimed at curbing regional banditry, resulted in the seizure of firearms, ammunition, and motorcycles.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operation’s spokesperson, reported that troops patrolling Bagega in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State discovered three women who were left behind by their captors due to aggressive military maneuvers. The victims—Zainab Muhammadu, 28, Hafsat Ibrahim, 20, and Halira Usman, 17—had been held for three months and were taken for medical treatment immediately following their recovery.
In a secondary operation on June 23, soldiers from the 8 Division Garrison utilized intelligence to ambush militants at Kwanar Jollof, located in the Shinkafi region of Sokoto State. The insurgents retreated under heavy fire, leaving behind a PKT machine gun, various supplies, and chains likely used to restrain captives. Danja emphasized that these successes demonstrate the impact of intelligence-led tactics and the ongoing dedication of military personnel to protecting northern communities. The operation remains focused on maintaining pressure against criminal groups to ensure regional stability.
