Mikel Obi Hopes Osimhen Moves To EPL
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has voiced his support for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to join the English Premier League.
Responding to reports linking Osimhen with a move to Manchester United, Mikel dismissed the club as a suitable option if they fail to secure qualification for European competitions.
“If that’s the case, then he doesn’t go to United,” the former international teammate of Osimhen said when asked whether a club not playing in Europe next season could rule them out of signing the player during a chat on beIN SPORTS during Soccer Sunday Live.
He also revealed that Osimhen has a strong desire to play for Chelsea, although he admitted he cannot predict the striker’s final decision regarding his next move.
“I hope somewhere in the Premier League,” he said before adding when pressed further, “I don’t know; we wait and see.”
“I know where we (Chelsea) stopped in terms of the contract, I know where we are,” Mikel said.
“It’s an easy fix. We did all the hard work last summer. It’s so easy to just pick it up.”
Osimhen, currently on loan at Turkish champions Galatasaray from Napoli, has been in outstanding form this season—scoring 21 goals and providing four assists in just 25 league appearances.
