On Saturday, 15 people killed during a July 28, 2026, raid on the Efeyi-Utikpi community in the Otukpo area of Benue State were interred in a single grave. Among the deceased were several women and children who lost their lives when suspected armed herders stormed the Ugboju District farming village.
The burial service was marked by deep sorrow as family and community members came together to honor those lost. This violent incident caused widespread trauma and destroyed many homes, intensifying worries about the vulnerability of rural populations in the region. This tragedy follows another mass funeral held less than three weeks prior for eight victims of a July 12 attack in Otukpo-Nobi.
The persistent violence has prompted citizens to urge authorities to prioritize the safety of farming districts. To support the affected families and local vigilante groups, the United States-based organization Equipping the Persecuted has pledged financial aid. Despite these efforts, community leaders remain focused on demanding that both state and federal governments improve security measures to stop the ongoing cycle of bloodshed.
