Walshak Samuel John, an activist based in Plateau State, has leveled serious accusations against soldiers serving with Operation Enduring Peace. He claims they murdered Fwangshak Dawuk, a youth leader from Mangu, before discarding his remains at the Barkin Ladi General Hospital. Dawuk served as the Secretary for the Mwaghavul Youth Movement in the Mangu Halle District.
Reports indicate the incident occurred on Sunday evening in Jakatai village. Dawuk and several other locals were acting as vigilantes to protect their community when military personnel allegedly shot him at point-blank range. Eyewitnesses quoted by John suggest the soldiers were protecting Fulani militants at the time of the shooting. Concerns have been raised regarding why the body was taken to the hospital and subsequently abandoned without a formal report or explanation.
Journalist Masara Kim Usman supported this narrative, noting that residents of Arangai (Jakatai) village faced an invasion by armed attackers. According to Usman, the soldiers were unresponsive to early distress calls but eventually arrived and opened fire on the local volunteer guards who were attempting to defend their community.
Captain Polycarp Oteh, the spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, denied any knowledge of the event, stating he was currently attending a course in Kaduna. Meanwhile, attempts to reach the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, for comment were unsuccessful as he did not respond to multiple inquiries.
