Manchester City has secured an agreement with Chelsea to pay €20 million, effectively releasing Enzo Maresca from his contractual obligations. The Italian coach is scheduled to arrive in Manchester this Monday to finalize a three-year deal with the club.
Maresca is set to take over the managerial role from Pep Guardiola, following the latter’s departure at the conclusion of the previous season. Reports from Sky Sport Italia confirm that City settled on the €20 million fee to facilitate the move, as Maresca remained technically tied to the London club despite his dismissal in January.
The appointment comes as little surprise, as Maresca was the primary candidate to fill the vacancy. His prior experience working as an assistant under Guardiola during the 2022-23 season made him a preferred choice for the organization.
