A man was discovered dead in a pool of blood early on July 21 at the entrance of the central market in Gotar Aliero, near Oando in Birnin Kebbi.

According to Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the victim, identified as 35-year-old Auwal Umar from Katami village in Silame LGA of Sokoto State, was allegedly killed by his friend following an earlier altercation.

Police investigations revealed that Umar had a heated argument with 30-year-old Bello Amakwa, a resident of Birnin Kebbi, earlier in the day at Kara Market. Later that night, Amakwa reportedly returned with a knife and fatally attacked Umar while he was asleep.

The suspect has been arrested and remains in police custody. Authorities confirmed that Amakwa confessed to the killing during interrogation.

Reacting to the incident, Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, condemned the act and cautioned youths against resorting to violence. He assured the public that justice would prevail and emphasized the state’s zero-tolerance stance on such crimes.
