Ex-Convict Re-Arrested For Robbery Five Days After Release From Kirikiri Prison

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have re-arrested an ex-convict, Segun Kolawole, just five days after his release from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, for allegedly robbing a trader in Ikeja.

Police spokesperson, SP Adebisi Abimbola, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that Kolawole, aged 25, allegedly stole an Infinix Note 40 Pro smartphone and N200,000 in cash from a trader who was sleeping near Peka, Opebi, around 5:00 a.m.

He was later arrested at the Oshodi Market around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday after RRS operatives noticed he was carrying a suspiciously large amount of money. When questioned, Kolawole could not give a satisfactory explanation for the N80,000 found on him or the phone in his possession.

Further investigation led officers to the victim, who confirmed the theft. Items recovered from the suspect included N80,000 cash, an Infinix Note 40 Pro smartphone, and newly purchased clothes and shoes.

In a separate operation, the RRS also apprehended two suspected pickpockets, Sodiq Isa (27) and Adekanmbi Ganiu (21), for attempting to snatch mobile phones from commuters at Ojota Bridge and Orile Roundabout last Friday evening.

According to the police, all three suspects have confessed to the crimes and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
