Luis Figo demands immediate resignation of FIFA head Gianni Infantino

Luis Figo has publicly called for Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA president, citing a lack of integrity and the recent failed attempt to sell World Cup stakes.

Former Real Madrid icon Luis Figo has publicly called for Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA president following a failed attempt to sell shares of the World Cup to private investors.

Figo claims that Infantino has been dishonest and no longer retains the backing of high-ranking officials. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, the ex-Portugal player accused the FIFA chief of damaging the reputation of the sport. He cited instances such as the reversal of disciplinary actions and the violation of match regulations during halftime entertainment as evidence of prioritizing personal gain over the integrity of the game.

The controversy stems from Infantino’s unsuccessful effort to monetize the World Cup through private equity. This proposal triggered significant opposition, leading UEFA to warn that they would skip FIFA tournaments if the plan proceeded. Figo concluded that while Infantino’s reputation may be beyond repair, the sport itself must be protected by his immediate departure.
