The Lagos State Government has launched a new residential project for workers at Ajasa, Command, located in the Ipaja district. This initiative aims to increase the availability of low-cost housing. Concurrently, officials have instructed contractors at the Egan-Igando Housing Scheme to finalize their construction efforts within the coming weeks.
Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, the Commissioner for Housing, oversaw the project sites alongside Permanent Secretary Engr. Adulhafis Toriola. The new development in Ajasa will feature 176 units, comprising both one- and two-bedroom apartments arranged across 11 blocks. Each block houses 16 flats and will include modern utility infrastructure.
The Egan-Igando estate, which the government intends to commission under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, encompasses 636 residential units. It is designed as a self-sustaining area with amenities like a football pitch, tennis court, shopping mall, and solar-powered water filtration. Akinderu-Fatai noted that while some contractors are behind schedule, the administration is focused on overcoming these delays to meet its targets.
The team also visited the Beacon Estate in Ipaja, a collaborative project involving 126 units. Commissioner Akinderu-Fatai reaffirmed the government’s pledge to maintain affordable pricing for the LagosHOMS scheme, ensuring costs remain below standard market rates for residents. He encouraged private developers to support these initiatives to help address the state’s housing shortage, with all currently inspected projects slated for completion by year-end.
