Lagos blast debris sent to Abuja for forensic investigation

Nigerian police have moved remnants from an Oke Mushin explosion to Abuja for forensic testing after an IED blast left the driver of a Toyota Sienna with minor injuries.

The Nigeria Police Force has transported materials gathered from the recent explosion in the Oke Mushin district of Lagos to Abuja for technical forensic review. The incident took place at 6 a.m. on Wey Street when a gold Toyota Sienna, license plate AAA 11FX, detonated after the driver attempted to start it.

Authorities, including bomb disposal specialists, quickly reached the location to secure the scene. An official mentioned that the driver suffered only minor injuries, and no other deaths or injuries were reported. Although the blast caused initial alarm in the neighborhood, daily life has returned to normal.

Early findings suggest the device might have been a small container hidden inside a bag near a nearby shop. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, acknowledged the blast during a press briefing, confirming that it was likely an Improvised Explosive Device. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit is currently reviewing the evidence, and the police have promised to release a full report once the investigation finishes.
