Funeral held for three Nigerian soldiers killed by IED in Sokoto

Three Nigerian soldiers killed by an IED in Sokoto State have been laid to rest as local residents call for improved equipment to combat banditry.

Three Nigerian soldiers, who died following an improvised explosive device blast during a mission in Isa Local Government Area, have been buried. The tragedy occurred on Saturday in Bargaja village, where the troops’ vehicle struck the device while they were answering a distress call regarding a bandit raid.

A funeral prayer took place at the Giginya Barracks, drawing a crowd of military staff, government representatives, and mourning family members. Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir attended on behalf of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, paying tribute to the soldiers as heroes who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the public. He offered sympathies to the bereaved families and pledged that the state government would persist in backing security forces to eliminate regional banditry.

After the service, the Deputy Governor visited wounded personnel at a local hospital. The Isa region, situated near the dangerous Kamuku-Kuyambana forest corridor, remains a volatile area often associated with bandit leader Bello Turji. Local citizens are now advocating for better mine-detection tools and advanced patrol gear to protect soldiers operating in the sector.
