Lagos State officials have taken 27 suspected vandals into custody following a midnight operation targeting those accused of damaging the bridge that links Festac Town to Alakija. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the arrests on Friday, categorizing the incident as a damaging act of sabotage against vital public property.
Reports indicate that the suspects removed essential structural elements, such as iron rods, steel reinforcement bars, and cables, which are critical to the bridge’s stability. Commissioner Wahab emphasized that this destruction creates severe risks for public safety and threatens the longevity of government infrastructure projects.
The arrests were made possible through a joint effort between the Rapid Response Squad and the Kick Against Indiscipline task force. The commissioner confirmed that all 27 individuals will face legal prosecution under existing Lagos State regulations. He also reiterated that the administration is dedicated to maintaining the security of public assets and will continue to pursue those involved in vandalism and related crimes.
