The Kwara State administration has raised an alarm regarding a surge in anonymous commercial motorcycle riders entering the region. Officials fear this trend may aggravate existing security vulnerabilities within local areas.
During an urgent security meeting in Ilorin held on Thursday, Commissioner for Transportation Aliyu Korasabi called upon transport union leaders to back the state’s current registration program for residents. Korasabi emphasized that the arrival of unknown operators poses a significant risk to community safety and demands an immediate collaborative response.
By cataloging every commercial motorcycle and tricycle driver, authorities aim to create a reliable database. This initiative is designed to distinguish lawful transport workers from potential criminals who might be using the profession as a cover for illicit activities. Korasabi stressed that maintaining public safety is a shared duty that requires active participation from all citizens, rather than relying solely on security services.
