Kwara Police Foil Illegal AK-47 Purchase

Kwara State police arrested Sanda Aliyu for attempting to purchase an AK-47 rifle, uncovering his plans to lead a new criminal gang.

Law enforcement officers in Kwara State have successfully prevented the illegal purchase of an AK-47 rifle within the Kaiama Local Government Area. Authorities detained a suspect named Sanda Aliyu after receiving reliable information about the transaction.

SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, the command spokesperson, stated that the Anti-Kidnapping Section acted on August 3, 2026, upon learning that Aliyu was attempting to buy a firearm from an associate identified as Aliyu Mohammed, who remains a fugitive. Detectives moved quickly to apprehend the suspect before the deal concluded.

During questioning, Aliyu confessed to paying N1.6 million for the weapon. He admitted he intended to gain status within his existing kidnapping ring before starting an independent criminal operation. Police are currently using the evidence gathered to identify other individuals involved in the network.

State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi praised the guidance of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu and pledged to maintain pressure on criminal groups. He promised that the command would utilize all available resources to ensure the safety of all state residents.
