On Wednesday, the Sokoto State Police Command reported significant success in its battle against violent crime, following two distinct intelligence-driven operations. These efforts resulted in the detention of two suspected kidnappers and the successful recovery of a 10-year-old boy in the Tangaza Local Government Area.
In the first instance, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit raided a criminal hideout in Tudun Doki Village, Gwadabawa Local Government Area, on August 8, 2026. This led to the arrest of Abdullahi Buba, also known as Osho. Authorities state that Buba is linked to a network responsible for abductions and extortion across Gwadabawa, Kware, and Gada. He is currently assisting police in identifying other gang members.
Separately, officers from the Gidan Madi Police Division in Tangaza rescued 10-year-old Muhammad Sufiyanu. The child’s uncle, Sani Ibrahim, reported him missing on the evening of August 11. Police surveillance teams later intercepted two individuals on a motorcycle carrying a concealed sack. When confronted, the suspects abandoned the item and fled. Inside, officers discovered the boy alive.
The victim, who was treated at Gidan Madi General Hospital and discharged, reported being sedated and stuffed into the sack. One suspect has been captured in connection with this kidnapping and has confessed to the act. Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, praised the officers for their performance and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to community safety, urging citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities.
