A pair of students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade reportedly passed away, while two others remain under medical care following the consumption of a substance identified as laughing gas. This incident took place in the Oke-Ola Phase II area of Isara-Remo, Ogun State.
Reports from local residents indicate that four individuals were involved in the incident on Tuesday. Two of these individuals lost their lives, while the others were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that an investigation into the drug-related deaths is currently underway. The remains of the deceased have been moved to a mortuary for an autopsy, and those who survived are being treated for their exposure. Babaseyi issued a warning to the public regarding the dangers of using illegal substances.
While initial reports linked the victims to the local polytechnic, police officials have noted that they have not yet officially verified the students’ enrollment status. Representatives from the school, including the Public Relations Officer, Folorunso Adedayo, have not provided a comment on the situation.
