Nine months after Ahmed Mohammed was abducted, his captors have issued a new demand for N300 million. Mohammed, a Permanent Commissioner for the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, was taken while traveling to Minna for official duties on September 29, 2025. This incident occurred on the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in the Borgu Local Government Area shortly before the state elections in November.
Despite the victim’s family previously paying N40 million in ransom, the kidnappers have reached out again to request this further payment. A relative, choosing to remain anonymous, confirmed that the group makes frequent calls to the family. The family has expressed their inability to meet this massive new financial demand and is now urging the Niger State government to intervene and assist in securing his freedom, noting that Mohammed was kidnapped while performing government work.
