The administration of Kebbi State has rejected accusations from Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, who claimed that Governor Nasir Idris worked against him and blocked his bid for a return ticket due to his public criticism of state insecurity.
Ahmed Idris, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, issued a statement on Thursday labeling the Senator’s assertions as baseless. He suggested these claims were merely an attempt to deflect from the lawmaker’s recent political failures.
Senator Maidoki, currently representing the Kebbi South Senatorial District, leveled the accusations following his departure from the All Progressives Congress to the African Democratic Congress. He cited internal party issues and perceived injustices as his primary reasons for leaving.
The state government insisted that the responsibility for addressing security challenges rests with all citizens, security personnel, and traditional leaders, rather than one person. They argued that linking his loss of the party ticket to his security concerns was a fabrication intended to mask his poor performance and loss of constituent support.
Furthermore, officials denied that Governor Idris controls the outcomes of internal party elections. The statement emphasized that the governor upholds democratic integrity and that party candidates are selected through standard, transparent procedures. The government called on Maidoki to accept the results of the primaries gracefully and avoid spreading misinformation to the public.
