Kebbi Police Dismiss Terrorism Links to Sai Malami Group

Kebbi State Police confirmed that investigations into the Sai Malami group show no evidence of terrorism, noting that previous arrests were for criminal activity and counterfeit currency possession.

The Kebbi State Police Command has clarified that there is no proof associating the group known as Sai Malami with terrorist activities. Following public concerns and social media reports regarding the group’s alleged return in the Argungu Local Government Area, the police launched an inquiry based on intelligence to assess the situation.

Command spokesperson Bashir Usman explained that suspects apprehended in Zuru back in February 2026 faced charges for criminal offenses rather than terrorism. During those arrests, authorities confiscated suspected fake currencies in various denominations, including Nigerian Naira, US Dollars, CFA Francs, and Libyan Dinars, alongside items linked to suspected occult rituals. No weapons were found in the suspects’ possession.

The police department reaffirmed its dedication to upholding peace throughout the state and warned that any criminal behavior would be met with strict legal consequences. Officials have encouraged residents to stay composed and provide reliable tips to help maintain public security.

This statement was issued to dispel rumors circulating online that suggested the group had reorganized as a terrorist entity. The command is continuing to investigate recent claims while urging the public to avoid circulating unverified information that could trigger alarm.
