Kano Police Apprehend Man With Firearm and Narcotics During Security Operation

A 51-year-old man was arrested in Kano for possessing a firearm, suspected cannabis, and stolen property after police intercepted his vehicle during an enforcement operation.

Authorities in Kano have taken a 51-year-old man into custody after discovering a pistol, suspected cannabis, and other suspicious items in his vehicle. This occurred during the enforcement of the state’s Operation Clean Plates initiative.

Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori stated that officers from the Panshekara Division stopped a vehicle lacking registration plates on July 9. The driver, identified as Mahi Ibrahim, initially attempted to escape but was eventually captured by police units. A search of the vehicle yielded a Beretta pistol, a knife, cannabis, electric wiring, and 120 lithium batteries. Additionally, the vehicle itself is suspected to be stolen.

The suspect is currently being held by the State Criminal Investigation Department as police investigate the origins of the seized contraband. Commissioner Bakori noted that the ongoing operation, which launched on July 6, has already intercepted 123 vehicles with improper identification. He confirmed that all individuals caught during this crackdown have been charged in court, emphasizing that the police remain committed to maintaining public safety and ending impunity.
