Abubakar Auwal, a 30-year-old man, has passed away after being attacked by a group in Kano State due to allegations of an extramarital affair. This violent event took place on July 24 within the Sheka district.
Police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa reported that the victim was lured to the location by 40-year-old Abubakar Ali and 27-year-old Sulaiman Lawan. These individuals accused Auwal of having a relationship with Ali’s wife. Upon receiving a report at noon, local officers arrived to find the victim in a comatose state resulting from a severe beating.
Authorities took three suspects into custody at the scene: Abubakar Ali, Sulaiman Lawan, and 22-year-old Hafsat Umar. Although emergency responders transported Auwal to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, he was pronounced dead by medical staff. His remains are currently at the morgue awaiting an autopsy as police continue their inquiries.
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, denounced the vigilante killing. He urged citizens to avoid resorting to extrajudicial measures and emphasized that law enforcement is the only body authorized to handle criminal investigations and prosecutions. The command has promised a transparent legal process for those involved.
