Edo State Police Detain Medical Staff Following Newborns Disappearance

Edo State police have arrested hospital staff after a newborn went missing following the mothers recovery from a postpartum coma.

Law enforcement officials in Edo State have taken several employees of a private hospital into custody regarding the reported vanishing of an infant. ASP Eno Ikoedem, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed that these detentions are part of an active investigation centered at the facility on Omouwadiae Street in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

Reports indicate that the mother gave birth successfully but subsequently entered a postpartum coma. Chaos erupted once she regained consciousness and asked to see her child, only for the staff on duty to report that the baby could not be found. Following the mothers distress and subsequent alarm, the case was escalated to the authorities.

Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika has ordered that the investigation be moved to the State Police Headquarters to ensure a rigorous inquiry. At present, investigators are questioning the detained medical personnel. Attempts to reach the hospitals Chief Medical Director, identified as Okungbowa, as well as the presiding matron for comment, have been unsuccessful.
