Kano Father Perishes Trying to Save Daughter from Well

A father and his teenage daughter died after falling into an old dry well in Yancibi Village, Kano State, during a failed rescue attempt.

A 45-year-old man named Abubakar Abdullahi lost his life after trying to save his 15-year-old daughter, Fiddausi Abubakar, from an abandoned dry well in Yancibi Village, located in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the tragedy on Wednesday. The local fire branch initially received a distress call on Monday evening, July 21. Although responders reached the site quickly, the rescue attempt was halted overnight because of poor visibility and difficult conditions at the well.

A specialized team from the fire service headquarters arrived on Tuesday morning to continue the search. They recovered both victims, who were unresponsive and subsequently pronounced dead. The remains were turned over to Shamsu Sani, the village head of Yancibi.

Reports suggest the teenager fell into the structure by accident, prompting her father to enter in a desperate rescue bid. The state fire service has since extended its sympathies to the family and urged the public to avoid entering dangerous confined spaces. Officials further emphasized the need to contact emergency services immediately during such crises to avoid additional fatalities.
