Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced that the students and teachers recently freed after being held in Oriire Local Government Area will stay under medical care for two days before being officially transferred to state authorities. The governor provided this update on Saturday while visiting the survivors at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services facility in Ibadan.
Makinde expressed deep appreciation for the safe rescue of the 39 pupils and five teachers. He acknowledged the bravery of the Nigerian Army and other security units involved in the operation. However, he noted with sadness that the mission resulted in the deaths of some security personnel, stating that the state mourns these fallen heroes.
Regarding the health of the survivors, the governor noted that they require physical and psychological recovery. He confirmed they will remain at the military hospital for 48 hours for assessment and care. Arrangements are also being made to allow family visits, specifically mentioning a young girl who has been asking for her mother. The governor urged citizens to remain unified against insecurity, promising a full briefing on the incident in the coming week.
