Kano Consumer Protection Agency Vows Legal Action Against Counterfeit Agrochemical Sellers

The Kano State Consumer Protection Agency is preparing to prosecute vendors of fake agrochemicals following reports of crop damage across the state.

The Kano State Consumer Protection Agency (KSCPA) has announced plans to prosecute individuals engaged in the sale of fake or diluted agricultural chemicals. Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, the agency’s Executive Secretary, issued this stern warning during a meeting with the leadership of the Kano State Agrochemical Dealers Association.

Dr. Muhammad highlighted that the agency is committed to stopping the distribution of substandard pesticides and herbicides, which have led to significant financial setbacks for local farmers. He noted that complaints have been particularly frequent in Kura and Garun Malam, where diluted products have ruined crops and lowered yields. The agency views these activities as a severe risk to food security and intends to enforce strict regulatory penalties against offenders.

In response, Alhaji Abdulkadir Gambo Dankoli, chairman of the dealers’ association, promised full cooperation with the KSCPA. He confirmed that the association has established an internal task force to expose fraudulent traders and preserve the reputation of the market. Furthermore, Dankoli advised the Kano State government to consult with association experts when distributing subsidized agricultural inputs to ensure farmers receive only authentic products.
