To bolster food security and reduce crop wastage, the Benue State government is set to build grain storage facilities throughout its 23 local government areas. Dr. Benjamin Ashaver, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, shared these details during a recent quarterly coordination meeting in Makurdi.
This initiative aims to stabilize market prices and increase local productivity. Additionally, the ministry is preparing a specialized training program for ginger farmers, paired with new policies to protect the state’s unique ginger varieties.
The government is also reporting progress on its Lapia Grass cultivation project, which is intended to support the livestock sector. Commissioner Ashaver emphasized that Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration is focused on fair input distribution and fostering partnerships to draw new agricultural investment to all council wards.
