The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has formally expressed opposition to the reintroduction of state police, arguing that Nigeria should instead focus on job creation and open dialogue to resolve security challenges. National President Khalil Mohammed Bello stated that this conclusion was reached following extensive discussions with stakeholders across the North West and North Central regions.
According to the association, although the need for enhanced security is pressing, a strategy centered on economic opportunity and communication is more sustainable and affordable than localized law enforcement. KACRAN highlighted that Nigeria experienced eras of greater stability in the past not because of regional police forces, but due to strong community bonds and better economic management.
The group emphasized that current instability stems from poverty, unemployment, and disputes between farmers and herders. They cautioned that state-controlled police forces could be manipulated by local leaders and might pose a specific threat to pastoralists, especially in jurisdictions with restrictive grazing laws. Instead of fragmented policing, KACRAN advised the federal government to bolster national security forces, invest in food production, and utilize traditional leaders to facilitate peaceful resolutions.
