Jigawa State has introduced comprehensive five-year development roadmaps for all 27 of its local government areas to boost grassroots governance and improve public service efficiency. Governor Umar Namadi introduced the policy on Monday at the Government House in Dutse, framing it as a major step toward embedding structured planning within local administration.
These documents serve as strategic guides for investment and resource management until 2030. Governor Namadi noted that while previous attempts like the Local Government Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy failed due to poor execution, this version emphasizes a direct connection between local needs and budgetary cycles. The framework aligns with the administration’s 12-Point Agenda and global Sustainable Development Goals.
The governor instructed all council leaders to utilize these plans as the core foundation for their annual budgets and operational projects, rather than leaving them as mere paperwork. He emphasized that the efficacy of this strategy depends on rigorous implementation and collective oversight. Namadi encouraged collaboration from civil society, the private sector, and traditional leaders to ensure these objectives translate into tangible improvements for residents across the state.
