The Kano State Government has declared that multi-billion naira bridge projects will no longer serve as locations for street trading or unauthorized commercial activity. Officials have confirmed that violators will face legal action as part of a new enforcement campaign.
Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, who heads the Kano State Special Taskforce on Illegal Structures, issued this warning while inspecting the Tal’udu Bridge. He ordered all scavengers and vendors currently occupying the area to vacate immediately, emphasizing that the state will not tolerate the degradation of public infrastructure.
According to Dr. Sani, permitting these activities undermines the intent behind the infrastructure’s construction. He reiterated that the spaces are not meant for markets, scavenging, or recreational use like football. The taskforce aims to protect public investments and restore order across the metropolis.
Urging citizens to adopt a more responsible attitude toward city upkeep, Dr. Sani noted that environmental compliance is essential for a safer urban environment. He pointed to strict regulations in nations like Saudi Arabia as a model for maintaining clean public spaces, stressing that behavioral change is necessary to achieve a better-organized Kano.
