Locals from Ivrogbo-Irri in the Isoko South area of Delta State have requested government assistance to fix their broken access road and bring back public power. A diverse group of community members, including youth and leaders, asked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to address these issues, noting that the broken road and lack of electricity have severely impacted their local economy.
During a peaceful demonstration, the residents explained that their livelihood depends on farming, fishing, timber, and palm oil production. The poor state of the road makes it difficult to move these goods to market. Furthermore, the community has functioned without electricity for over 15 years, hurting local schools and small businesses.
One resident pointed out that flooding in 2012, 2018, and 2022 caused much of the road damage. Because the town is in a riverine area, citizens fear that future flooding will completely cut them off. As an oil-producing community, they believe they deserve better infrastructure. They are urging the state government to complete repairs before the next rainy season begins to prevent further isolation.
