Isaac Fayose has publicly urged his older brother, Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, to turn down his recent appointment as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). In a video posted to his Instagram account, Isaac argued that the role is beneath his brother’s political standing.
The Presidency recently named Ayo Fayose as the REA board chairman, a decision announced by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. The appointment involves working with board members Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, alongside the agency’s leadership.
Isaac criticized the move, suggesting his brother should have been considered for a ministerial or ambassadorial role rather than a parastatal board position. He speculated that the timing of the announcement might be linked to a recent visit from Labour Party leader Peter Obi to his residence. Furthermore, Isaac recalled his brother stating years ago that he intended to focus entirely on private business rather than pursuing further public service appointments.
He described the offer as an inappropriate gift and suggested that the former governor should consider passing the position to one of his sons instead. Despite his skepticism regarding the current government’s motives, Isaac expressed optimism about the political landscape heading into the 2027 elections.
